Protecting Your Beach Baby From the Elements

Perhaps you’re one of those people who book their Crystal Coast beach vacation a year in advance and find a year later that you have a new family addition to bring along to the beach. Or perhaps you just love the ocean and don’t want to forgo your annual trip to the beach because of your new baby. Whatever the case, taking a baby to the beaches of the Southern Outer Banks of North Carolina is easier now than ever before.

Vacation is a Total Family Experience

We all want every member of the family to enjoy their Crystal Coast beach vacation. This post will offer some common sense advice to help youCrystal Coast Beach Baby and your baby enjoy your beach vacation together. Of course, it is recommended you ask your pediatrician for helpful tips to protect your child while you’re on vacation here on the Crystal Coast. The last thing you want to do is expose your child to the dangerous rays of the sun and the negative effects of the wind. With a beach tent, your infant can be protected from the sun and still enjoy the seaside. Make sure you rent or purchase a tent that allows the ocean breezes to circulate in the tent. If no wind can circulate in the tent it can heat up quickly.

Keeping Your Baby Hydrated

Make sure you bring along plenty of liquids for your baby. An ice cooler will keep any formula from getting to hot. If you don’t have a cooler, you can place a frozen blue freezer pack in you diaper bag. You may find that your baby will need to drink more often than normal due to the heat. Dehydration can be avoided if you bring along extra bottles.

Sun Safety Tips for Your Beach Baby

Sunscreen for infants is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. There are many products made specifically for a baby’s tender skin. Ask your Pharmacist and check with your Pediatrician as to what sun protection they recommend. You will want to purchase the highest SPF available. Even with sunscreen, you should try to keep your baby out of direct sunlight and avoid the hottest time of the day (11am-4pm).

Entertaining Your Baby While on the Crystal Coast Beaches

If your baby cannot sit up on their own, consider bringing along a play gym or mat. This will help everyone enjoy the beach. If you baby is older, you might want to bring along an ExerSaucer or Activity Center so the baby can see all the activity on the beach.

Protecting Your Babies Eyes

Sunglasses are also important. Little eyes can be sensitive to the sun and sunglasses with a UV coating will help protect your babies eyes from the harmful effects. Sunglasses that Velcro in back are comfortable and won’t fall off. These work for the smallest infants.

There are many rental companies on the Crystal Coast that have baby gear such as high chairs, port-a-cribs and gates. To save the hassle of bringing all sorts of baby gear to the beach, why not check out one of these equipment rental agencies here on the Crystal Coast to see what you can rent.
